Breadth and depth are what characterise Transition to General Management participants. As the name implies, they’re so diverse in terms of nationality, international experience, culture and background that it’s hard to generalise. But one thing is sure: they’re all proven senior managers in their own area of business. And now they’re on the threshold of the next step up: a highly successful general management career. Some have already been promoted, while others are about to make that big breakthrough. They also tend to fit the following profile:
- Senior functional or technical managers about to make the transition to general management or recently appointed general managers
- At least eight years’ management experience with an outstanding track record in one or more functional areas of business
There are approximately 30 nationalities in each session and an even greater diversity of backgrounds. We ensure that everyone is at more or less that same crucial career transition.
From participants to alumni
As well as becoming part of your own class community, you leave the Transition to General Management as a full member of the INSEAD alumni community. Only graduates of our world-famous MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes, together with selected former Executive Education participants, are eligible for this status. This elite worldwide network consists of over 41,100 alumni in around 160 countries, many with very active National Alumni Associations. Alumni benefit from lifelong networking and professional development opportunities, including regional events, refresher programmes and reduced rates for all Executive Education.

'The key messages around value creation are continually driven throughout the programme, and I’ve found they come up in my mind every day; I’m constantly analysing activities and asking what value they bring. The Bootcamp was the missing piece of the jigsaw. By doing everything we’d learned about through the simulation, I truly understood it all. The Bootcamp also gave me the confidence to embed the learning from Transition to General Management in my daily work.' Click here to read more. Thomas Henriksen is General Manager, Australia-New Zealand, for Ingredion. He completed the Transition to General Management optional, one-week “Bootcamp” module– in order to continue the learning journey he began last year with the programme itself. |

'It definitely answered my need to step back from day-to-day work and develop my understanding of complex organisations. It also helped me to see some of the dilemmas of general management more clearly.' Click here to read full interview. Sophie Roche is Continuous Improvement and Transformation Manager at Atos. 'This programme really opened my mind and gave me an entire new perspective on many things! I can truly say that it is the best programme ever, and my only regret is that I did not do it earlier! It has really helped me to place emphasis on the value side of the business instead of solely looking at the cost side. Understanding what a customer really values brings great opportunities to enrich and innovate our offerings in a very targeted and sensible manner.' Michael Byczkowski, Vice President Technology Innovation, works for SAP AG. Click here to read the interview about his experiences at INSEAD. |

'I wanted a programme that was more than just a few days, as it had to take me up to a whole new career level. But an EMBA would have been too long. The two-times-two-weeks format seemed just right. And I wanted to be at a leading international school – not just to get the best education available but also to benchmark myself with top people.' 'The whole program teaches you why you should move from giving answers to asking questions, from telling people what to do to guiding them in the right direction... I felt like a different guy when I came back to work and I still feel that way! I believe I opened myself to new ways of thinking.' Bertrand Conan is a Marketing Director for STMicroelectronics near Paris. An engineer by training, he has increasingly taken on business and a strategic role – and plans that his next move will be into general management. With that in mind, he recently completed the Transition to General Management programme. Click here to read the interview about his experiences at INSEAD. |
