Professor Herminia Ibarra and participants, discuss how to develop your leadership capacity and how to better prepare yourself for the critical transition into leadership.
Aimed at those who already have strong management experience, whose careers are progressing steadily and have been told they have leadership potential. The Leadership Transition programme is about realising the opportunity to make a bigger impact in the future. It will broaden participants’ scope of vision and the sphere of influence they have cultivated in the past.
This is an extraordinary and unconventional experience. Our objective is to develop your leadership capacity and better prepare you for the critical transition into leadership. Our unique learning model helps you to increase your personal understanding and to close the gap between this understanding and effective action. You will take part in 360°feedback and develop a practical, personal action plan to implement immediately upon your return.
Key benefits:
Gain valuable insight into your leadership style and its impact
Develop a more constructive use of leadership power allowing for more effective behaviour and results as a leader
Become a more effective change agent, facilitating an increase in positive results from senior level initiatives.
The Iron Lady's Failed Mid-Career Transition
In the new movie, The Iron Lady, we see an old and diminished Margaret Thatcher flashing back to the pinnacle of her power. But, perhaps the most important and the least obvious lesson— for Thatcher herself, as well as for us—is about the midlife transition she failed to make. The Leadership Transition aims to develop participants’ leadership capacity. Participants increase their personal understanding of leadership and then close the gap between this understanding and effective action. The programme also looks at how leaders build networks and seek continual self-improvement.
Combining the latest leadership models with recent thinking on how adults learn and change, the programme utilises a variety of learning techniques including experiential exercises, self-assessment and group work, participants explore leadership in its entirety:
What leaders really do
A matter of style
Leading a team
Building effective networks
Feedback and coaching for change
The Leadership Transition is designed for experienced, mid-career professionals in upper-middle to senior level positions who are preparing to take on enhanced leadership responsibilities within their organisations. It is aimed at those who are moving from functional or operational roles into roles that are more strategic.
This group of accomplished women, and men shares a wealth of functional, industry and international experience with up to 20 nationalities in class. Acceptance to the programme implies a full commitment to be present and engaged throughout both modules.
"The Leadership Transition programme provided me with further and deeper insights into leadership and its importance. It gave me the opportunity to reflect on my personality, preferences and style and to put this into the context of an international group of managers all looking for the same insights. In particular, it gave me the awareness of how important it is to manage one’s own leadership transition process well and thoroughly. The programme is structured has an excellent mix of learning and teaching styles and techniques. I am glad that I had the opportunity to attend this programme right before my next change in leadership position was about to take place."
