Becoming a visionary CEO

There are other programmes designed for business leaders. None are quite like this. AVIRA: Awareness, Vision, Imagination, Responsibilities, Action is a unique opportunity to put aside the urgent in order to consider the important by exploring the five essential attributes of excellent CEOs (Awareness, Vision, Imagination, Responsibility, Action). It provides senior leaders from around the world a forum for exploring and debating issues most prominent on their agenda.

Working with other business leaders drawn from diverse cultures and geographies, and with their own unique experiences, you will spend five days reflecting on business, society, leadership and your personal life within the context of being an inspiring CEO.

AVIRA aims to increase senior executives’ capacity to master the complexity of the CEO’s job in the context of an ever-changing global environment. The emphasis is on the individual as the agent of his or her own learning, development and transformation. The approach is non-traditional, raising questions and challenging alternative answers through a variety of interactive methods, including roundtable discussions, team work, panel discussions and interpersonal peer exchanges.

Condensed into five intensive days, the programme is set in fully residential surroundings. 

1. Awareness. Participants follow the path from the outside world of the corporation, to the inner world of the top executive
2. Vision. They are asked to envision tomorrow’s managers, organisations and global economy
3. Imagination. With their peers, participants are encouraged to be bold and creative but selective
4. Responsibility. The programme will redefine what it means to be a CEO, seeking for participants to be different not just better
5. Action. Finally, they are asked to commit to the discipline to act

Participants on the AVIRA programme are a highly select group of top executives. Drawn from across the globe, participants are generally C-Suite executives, board members or chair person of an international organisation, and executive Vice-Presidents. They are also diverse in their business and cultural experience. It is this richness, unique to INSEAD, which attracts the most senior global leaders on to this programme.

INSEAD’s professors represent many cultures, disciplines, and perspectives. Led by acknowledged world experts in their own particular fields, this programme faculty remain intimately close to business and most are engaged in cross-disciplinary research.*

	Subramanian Rangan Programme Director Professor of Strategy and Management The Shell Fellow in Business and the Environment Subi Rangan received an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His research and teaching revolve around the strategy and management challenges facing multinational firms.
