Practical advice on how to turn global strategy into local Asian solutions
Why should I choose INSEAD above other business schools?
We think our diversity is our distinguishing feature. INSEAD is probably the only school where you’ll often find up to 20 different nationalities in the same class. And it’s certainly the only school where no single one of those 20 nationalities will predominate. Having said that, our faculty are among the best (and most diverse) in the world too.
Why is diversity such a big deal?
The obvious answer is that business is more international than ever before. But it’s the subtle answer that’s much more powerful. With so many different national and cultural perspectives to learn from, you really will start to see things differently. By challenging your old assumptions, you’ll become aware of new possibilities and start to understand how very different people think.
Is this programme only for executives working in Asia?
No. Those based in Asia will find the programme extremely valuable, but they’re not the only ones. For example, executives from outside the region who want to develop their general management skills and strategic thinking will benefit greatly from the experience, especially if they have an interest or responsibility in Asia. Companies looking to expand into Asia or individuals about to relocate to the region will also gain great value from the programme. It’s designed to help individuals and companies face the specific challenges of general management, with an emphasis on Asian case studies.

How will this programme benefit me when I go back to work?
Whilst theory is essential, practical solutions – in addition to the personal experiences of participants from diverse backgrounds and cultures – ensure that INSEAD General Management Programmes provide the skills and knowledge that are relevant in real-life business situations. By using actual case studies to develop theoretical ideas, the Asian International Executive Programme explores business insights in both a global and distinctly Asian context.
Do I have to attend the sessions on my own area of expertise?
Absolutely. First, you will almost certainly gain a new perspective on your field. Our faculty integrate the very latest developments in management thinking into their teaching – and give all this in the Asian context that our participants are seeking. Second, you’ll have the valuable experience of passing on your expertise to classmates from other disciplines. In other sessions, they’ll return the favour by sharing their insights and expertise with you.
Breadth and depth are what characterise Asian International Executive Programme participants. As the name implies, they’re so diverse in terms of nationality, international experience, culture and background that it’s hard to generalise. But one thing is sure: they’re all proven experts in their own area of business. And now they’re on the threshold of the next step up: a highly successful general management career. Some have already been promoted, while others are about to make that big breakthrough. They also tend to fit the following profile.
Executives with at least eight years’ management experience, or newly appointed general managers
Typically participants already work in Asia (or are preparing to) or have responsibilities that are specific to the region
There are approximately 20 nationalities in each session and an even greater diversity of backgrounds. We ensure that everyone is at more or less that same crucial career transition

"With practical advice on how to turn global strategy into local solutions and detailed analyses of case studies from across Asia, the programme provided me with the expertise I needed to manage our office in Singapore."
When I was called to my manager’s office, he had some news that I had been expecting: I was promoted to general manager. But he also had a surprise: I would be transferred from our office in the Netherlands to one in Singapore.
I knew that I could not take on this role without the proper training, so I started to look at the best business schools in Asia and what they had to offer. And this was how I discovered INSEAD’s Asian International Executive Programme. With practical advice on how to turn global strategy into local solutions and detailed analyses of case studies from across Asia, the programme provided me with the expertise I needed to manage our office in Singapore.
It was delivered by faculty members who have more than 10 years’ industrial and academic experience in the region – whose valuable advice helped me to quickly adjust to my new working environment. More than that, this experience allowed me to build a network of business professionals from across Asia – and around the world. In the end, being transferred to Singapore turned out to be the best surprise for me and my career.

"For me personally, the programme facilitated a career transition. I’d been specialising in marketing for 12 years, but INSEAD provided a broader outlook."
It was a two-week, intensive experience that just flew by! I was impressed by the professors’ real-world experience, as well as their academic insights. They managed to pack substantial content into that short time, by using a variety of engaging teaching methods. There were case discussions, group exercises and computer simulations, as well as the lectures and general classroom debate that I’d expected. The opportunity to exchange ideas with the 37 participants from different cultures and industries enhanced the overall value proposition of the programme, making it much more enriching.
For the company, the Asian International Executive Programme’s vast spectrum of content and geographical coverage was very appealing. And the development of strategic skills, whichis an important part of the programme, matched their needs particularly.
For me personally, the programme facilitated a career transition. I’d been specialising in marketing for 12 years, but INSEAD provided a broader outlook. I’ve moved into the world of Supply Chain Management, which may seem like a big change, but not as far removed from marketing as you might think. The programme has helped me see how they are connected in maximising value creation.
I still draw from insights obtained from the programme, and I’m still in touch with the other participants. In fact, I’m about to get in touch with one of them as a prospect for a partnership opportunity in China.

“I went to Singapore on a general management programme but returned to Hong Kong with a network that stretches across Asia.”
I’d already done one programme at INSEAD, so I had no hesitation in signing up for the Asian International Executive Programme. I also had an MBA from back home in Germany, but it was specialised in my own area, which is marketing. And after a few promotions, I was looking for a programme that would give me broader horizons but with an Asian context.
That’s certainly what I got. The content was everything I could have asked for and the case studies were excellent. But what I most appreciated was the diversity among the other participants. With so many nationalities and industries represented, the discussions about best practice were very lively and productive.
I also felt that my knowledge was updated. I learnt about new tools that simply weren’t around when I was at business school and have already implemented some of them at work.
So the learning has absolutely stayed with me. And, just as importantly, the network is still strong. To give an illustration, I was in Malaysia last week on business. I was using my mobile phone at the airport and, by the time I’d finished talking, one of the other participants from the programme was standing next to me. He’d recognised my voice from the other side of the departure lounge. I went to Singapore on a general management programme but returned to Hong Kong with a network that stretches across Asia.
Great minds from throughout the world – at your service
