Participant Profile

High achievers in search of new challenges

As the name implies, the Advanced Management Programme attracts those who have attained the very highest standards of business performance:

  • senior executives and heads of product divisions, geographical regions or corporate functions
  • over ten years’ management experience, with at least five years in general management positions (in charge of a business or part of it, with clear P&L responsibility)
  • budget responsibilities ranging from a €30 million to several billions annually
  • fewer than four levels from CEO for a multi-billion-euro company, but CEO level for a company with turnover of below a €100 million

Beyond this, the diversity of experience is so great that it’s hard to generalise. Past participants work across both the public and private sectors from multinational oil companies to large-scale start-ups and international charities. But they all have one thing in common: they are considered leaders in their organisations.

The Advanced Management Programme typically has between 60 and 80 participants in the spring and autumn and anywhere up to 100 in the summer. This represents an extraordinary wealth of industries, companies, leadership positions and experiences to learn from.

But it is the geographical diversity that is most striking. The participants of the Advanced Management Programme over the years now represent over 80 countries. There are typically around 30 nationalities in any given class. Most importantly, none of these nationalities form a majority. That is what makes INSEAD unique.

With no dominant culture or dogma, in the classroom, participants will discover not only a unique learning environment, but also rich networking and benchmarking opportunities.

Admission process

Selection is taken very seriously. The programme directors, who are among INSEAD’s most senior faculty, personally evaluate all applications based on:

  • Leadership achievements
  • Current level of responsibility
  • Commitment to learning and self-development
  • Diversity of geography and experience in each class

Business consultants and individuals without current managerial responsibilities are invited to consult our expert advisor prior to applying.

From participants to alumni

All participants are invited to a follow-up refresher session one year after the programme. Participants also leave the Advanced Management Programme as full members of the INSEAD alumni community. Only graduates of our world-famous MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes, together with selected Executive Education participants, are eligible for this status. The elite worldwide network consists of over 36,000 alumni in around 150 countries, many with very active National Alumni Associations. Alumni benefit from lifelong networking and professional development opportunities, including regional events, refresher programmes and reduced rates for all Executive Education.
