"This programme will give you the tool kit, the conceptual understanding and the real-world ability to make sure you’re making the right decisions to help your clients and your companies to survive and thrive."
Whether they are seasoned M&A advisors or C-suite executives, even the most experienced professionals need new insights. This is particularly true in the areas of valuation, investment decision-making and corporate strategy, where it is all too tempting to slip into simple mechanical processes without asking 'why?' Indeed the failure to ask the right questions may explain why so many investments and acquisitions result in the destruction – rather than creation – of value. Regardless of economic conditions all managers need to be able to assess and differentiate the value of a decision from the cost of the decision – in order to win in a competitive environment and survive in the long term.
In the Advanced Valuation Programme, experienced participants for whom valuation is a central part of their work are exposed to a conceptually challenging curriculum, exploring both the theoretical basis and practical application of all major elements of discounted cash flow valuation. You learn to differentiate between long-term value-creating strategies and short-term indicators, such as share price, earnings per share, market share, revenue growth, increased profit and customer satisfaction. Above all, you learn to ask the questions that will build value for the future.

INSEAD's new Advanced Valuation Programme will take place in the prestigious Châteauform in Paris, one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, from 4 - 6 April 2013.
The programme works through the following content, using numerous examples and a single central case study to build on the knowledge acquired each day. Themes covered during the programme include:
Fundamentals of valuation: 'pricing' versus 'valuation methods'; value creation; Opportunity Cost of Capital versus Weighted Average Cost of Capital
Evaluating a company’s strategic position: using data and historical analysis to estimate and interpret important economic indicators
Forecasting cash flows and continuing value: developing accurate forecasts using 'top-down' and 'bottom-up' techniques
Potential complications: complicated tax scenarios; valuation of foreign companies, including the developing world; political risk and government intervention.
The Advanced Valuation Programme is designed for experienced professionals who want to expand their knowledge and gain new insights into company valuation. Participants are typically: bankers involved in advising corporate clients; corporate finance consultants or accountants; M&A professionals (either from advisory firms
or corporate development staff); private equity professionals involved in assessing investment opportunities; and others, such as general managers, who are involved in investment decision-making or responsible for corporate finance strategy.
Applicants should have significant valuation experience and be familiar with the basic valuation concepts, such as definition of free cash flows, the costs of capital, the CAPM and/or the APT.
